Four months ago we were 18 months into our baby journey and I was just fed up. At this point it was suggested by our doctors that we proceed with IUI or IVF in order to get pregnant but Stephen and I didn’t feel called to go in that direction at that time. We were both deemed “exceptionally healthy” so in my gut I couldn’t help but think that we were missing something. I took matters into my own hands and got myself down many rabbit holes doing research on ways to get naturally pregnant. One of the topics that continued to come up was removing endocrine disruptors in the home. Endocrine disruptors are chemicals that can interfere with the body’s endocrine system which are responsible for controlling our hormones. Our hormones impact our metabolism, emotions, sleep, reproductive system, immune system, etc. You get the point… They are really dang important. I want to make the point that endocrine disruptors can pose a risk for anyone, not just those of you that are also on a baby journey of your own. Research is showing that endocrine disruptors can attribute to increased risk of immune and autoimmune diseases, reductions in male fertility, female reproductive health issues and increases in mammary, ovarian, and prostate cancers (you can read more about this HERE).
I started looking into potential endocrine disruptors in our home and holy guacamole, Batman… There were A LOT! In our detergents, candles, soaps, lotions, makeup, cleaning supplies (even the ones that I thought were “natural” when I bought them), you name it, it contained an endocrine disruptor (or many). Around the same time, Brooke from @nestingwithgrace had been sharing about this plant based solution called Thieves by Young Living. She explained how it can be used in many different ways to clean the entire house from top to bottom, for laundry, for hand soap, body wash, etc. I looked into it and it sure enough it did not contain endocrine disruptors. I kept that in the back of my mind for a couple of months as a potential alternative to use in our home.
As for essential oils in particular, I thought it was all hocus pocus until I started reading more and more about them. Did you know that when you put an oil on your body, there is a physiological reaction that takes place? For example, women that are breastfeeding are supposed to avoid peppermint essential oil because it can cause their milk supply to decrease. When I heard that I thought WHAT IN THE WORLD?! That means there’s an actual reaction occurring in the body! I was shocked. Continuing on with the peppermint example, in controlled experiments of athletes, oral ingestion of peppermint showed an instant significant improvement in grip force, standing vertical jump, and standing long jump (that entire study can be found HERE). Furthermore, both topical application and inhalation of peppermint were shown to improve pain tolerance and word load capacity (that entire study can be found HERE). And that’s just peppermint!
When I realized that essential oils weren’t all just a load of bull honky and that we could stock our own medicine cabinet using essential oils I was not only amazed but intrigued to look more into companies that we could trust. There are a few great ones that I looked deeply into but ultimately decided on Young Living not only because they sold Thieves, the product I mentioned earlier, but mainly due to their unmatched Seed to Seal process that guarantees the purity and potency of every oil. This was important to me because I know that there is currently no government agency regulating products like these. That means that the “essential oils” I was previously using from Amazon could’ve been full of chemical fragrance which can contain up to 10,000 potential endocrine disruptors that the company does not have to disclose on the label. Isn’t that bonkers? I think so.
I purchased my starter kit, which was the most economical way for us to get started, and was excited but also intimidated. I didn’t really know where to start. Almost instantly though I was connected with oil users and into amazing groups that contained an abundant number of resources and education. Within a short period of time we were using our oils daily and started replacing the many potential endocrine disruptors in our home with Young Living products. I don’t think we’ll ever go back.
In the morning, one of the first things that I do is turn the diffuser on. I love the way it smells and how it makes the “vibe” feel so cozy with the little light on. I change the blends daily but some of my favorites in the morning include:
I use this every morning and night as my moisturizer after I wash my face. It might seem odd to purposefully add oil to the face but I’ve found that when I use this serum, my skin is less oily throughout the day. It also has done a great job at preventing any breakouts!
Combine the essential oils and jojoba oil in a 2 oz. glass dropper bottle.
Rub onto a clean face morning and night.
We use Thieves concentrated solution daily to clean our countertops and appliances (add one capful into a 16 oz. glass spray bottle and fill the rest with water), Thieves dish soap to clean our dishes, Thieves hand soap, and Thieves laundry detergent. I was very hesitant about the laundry detergent because I doubted whether or not it would clean our clothes effectively, especially Stephen’s flight suits… WOOF. After months of using it though, we love it. It does a great job cleaning our clothes and they do not smell coming out of the wash. To give it a bit of scent coming out of the dryer, we’ll add a couple drops of essential oil (lavender is our favorite for this!) onto our wool dryer balls and that does the trick.
Like I mentioned earlier, we made a good number of changes to our lifestyle which you can read about HERE because of our baby journey. One of them being that we removed the endocrine disruptors like I mentioned in this post and another one being that I started using this fertility blend daily to balance my hormones and enhance fertility. After using this blend for one month, I saw my first ever positive sign on a pregnancy test (after 18 months of negatives). I don’t believe that there is any research specifically on this blend but I do know of many other women in our groups that also got pregnant after using this.
I believe that this blend made such a positive impact on our journey so I want to offer it to those of you that would like a roller bottle for yourself. If you the purchase of a starter kit and enrollment of essential rewards and email me at email@example.com that you would like a fertility blend, I will make it and send it to you for free!
Combine all of the oils with fractionated coconut oil or jojoba oil in a 10 ml roller bottle. Apply to the lower abdomen targeting the ovaries and uterus areas every morning and night.
