Living Room Design Plan + Inspiration

posted in:

Hi! Today I wanted to share with you all what we’re thinking of doing to finish up our living room. It’s one of the last spaces to go!!! As we’re making some of the final touches on this house, I’m slowly but surely clarifying my own style. It has taken time, that’s for sure! I choose to give myself grace with all of this though and take it all as lessons learned. My biggest tips are to always create a design board before you do anything in a room or spend a dime, always ask yourself, “Am I doing this because it’s on trend or because someone else loves it? Or because I/we love it?” and lastly, only put items in your home that you love and bring you joy. I think the last one can be easier said than done but just asking myself, “Does this bring me joy?” before buying something has stopped me in my tracts quite often. A lot of the time the honest answer is no and it gets put back on the shelf.

By the way, if you’re new around here, HI! It’s so nice to have you. I also wanted to preface all of this by saying that absolutely nothing was wrong with our home or this living room. That’s not why we’re “refreshing” our home. We bought/built this house so it was brand spankin’ new when we moved in last year. However, we just love to put our own touch on it as much as we can! It reflects more of our personality and style and really makes this feel like home (something that is cherished by us considering we move every 2.5 years). I just don’t want that message to get lost or for you all to think we aren’t grateful for this place/thought it was ugly or anything like that. Nope! That’s not the case.

Here are some other room updates we’ve completed: master bathroom, guest bathroom, master bedroom, and our laundry room.

I looked around for some inspiration for our living room but I didn’t really start with it this time around. I just started the design board with what I knew would be in there for sure. For example, the rug, the planters, curtains, table, and fan I knew would all be staying as is. From there I just kind of starting messing around with it until it made me all warm and fuzzy inside. Here are some spaces that make me feel that way too:

I shared the other day on Instagram stories that we are getting new couch covers from an amazing company called, Comfort Works. We were torn between the last two fabric options, Kino Ash and Kino Natural, so we had you all vote to help us! And the winner is….

Kino Ash!!! Not only did you all vote for this but we think this fabric and color choice is going to be a winner in our home! I’ll go more into why this was our final decision in an upcoming post. For this design board, I was a little concerned about the amount of neutrals. It just needed something more! I threw some color in there *what?!* so we’ll use this as our starting point but there may be a few more small changes I make with decor (one of them being to spray paint the black sconces brass… I’ll decide on that once I see them in here!).  I just want it to feel warm and cozy but fun, you know?!

I’m so excited to take you all along with this room update and show you the finished product!

I hope you all have an amazing day! Thank you so much for helping us decide on the couch fabric! This is going to be GOOD!
