Fresh Baked White Bread


  • 1 3/4 - 2 cups warm water
  • 1 1/2 tsp honey, agave, maple syrup, or sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2-3 tbsp olive oil, avocado oil, canola oil, coconut oil, or whatever you have on hand
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast


Bread Machine Instructions

  1. Add all of the ingredients into the pan of the bread machine.

  2. Set the machine to a 2 lb loaf.

  3. Press start!

Oven Baked Instructions

  1. Mix the flour, honey, salt, oil, and yeast until combined in a large bowl.

  2. Add the water to the flour mixture. Start with 1 3/4 cups then add more until it isn’t dry. But not too much so that it's sticky.

  3. Form the dough into a ball. Cover the dough with a towel or plastic wrap and let it sit 8-24 hours on the counter.

  4. Deflate the risen dough to get the air out. There's an excellent video on how to do that HERE.

  5. Grease your bread pan with oil or butter.

  6. Place the bread dough in your baking pan and let it rise for an hour covered with a dish towel.

  7. Bake the bread 400 degrees for 30 minutes covered with tin foil (it's best to "tent" the foil over the top of the pan so that it doesn't stick to the dough), then 10 minutes uncovered until golden on top.
